The fact that you have to pay to send your scores to each college made me so angry in high school! You get to send a few for "free" after paying to take the SAT (and three or four additional subject tests & AP exams) but then you have to pay for each further one, on top of paying application fees to those colleges. I also had no idea they claimed to be a nonprofit????

Also the sample graded essays were wild - in my AP english language class we would sometimes do exercises where we'd try to grade them based on the criteria and we always gave them way lower scores. at least it made us feel a lot more confident in our work

I had a teacher in HS that told me, "Never take the SAT. Take the ACT. The SAT's don't care about you and will only harm you in the long run." I wonder if he spoke from experience.

When the max was 1600 (when I took it and I'm poor af), my scores were the following: 524 in reading and 586 in math. I didn't bother to study and left several questions in blank (didn't had enough time to answer all of them).

I want to point out, National Review is a far right-wing news site and their complaint was more accurately that AP US History guidelines require teachers to not teach American exceptionalism. They presented it as pushing liberal bias, but they were pushing “hey, America has done bad things too and if we don’t acknowledge that we’re in danger of repeating it”
Dzień temuelijah
the controversy around 26:00 was something I was a part of, i took the august 2018 SAT and there were so many problems and i had my own grade and several of my friends had their grade effected by the removing of questions. my friend was going to get a perfect score but because of the mess up on that test she didn’t. it was crazy

The whole system is stupid and build on nonsense and false believes. Like a person will acquire wealth through the schooling system. More like the complete opposite is the truth. You will acquire debt. That sat, like 10 years ago, when I took it, was $30. I am not saying that $30 is not money, it is, but to see that is has increased to $60. I threw my SAT book in the trash once I saw that. Those who work within it, or make up those exams, along with the university professors, do not see and watch YouTube videos of people burning their degrees and paperwork ?

I took apush last year and it’s “leftist” stance in the textbook was documenting lgbtq history (stonewall, the fact that there have always been lgbtq people) and their coverage of women’s rights movements (from what I remember) . I have many moral qualms with the college board but this is not one of them.

Another shitty thing that the CollegeBoard did this past testing season is make everyone take the online test... at the same time. And by same time, I mean that no matter the time zone you live in, you had to take it at the same time as everyone else in the world. They claimed it was "for security measures." So while the vast majority of the test takers live in the US and got to take the test around noon, I live in Germany and had to to take it at10 pm. I was so tired, and staying up that late wasn't even that bad. There are people that I know that moved to Japan and had to take their tests at like 3 in the morning, all because CollegeBoard couldn't figure out a decent way to handle the testing.

I didn't know how the SATs work, thank you. In my country we have standardised national tests, that all students take at the same time, in 12th grade (that we, of course, pay nothing for, since they're a government thing). If you get your diploma, you can only then go to college, if you don't you can't. And I always thought the SATs were exactly that, but you have to pay a small fee to take the exam. Holy shit, was I wrong 😂😂

I went through the IB program, since I was lucky enough to go to a school that offers it, and offers it for free if you complete the diploma program, and I definitely like it and the tests better than the couple of AP tests I prepared for and took. This is something that I really need to investigate for myself.. but I was going to a high school that was considered low income. We got some kind of Grant or something that covered the cost of our sats, which was rad. But when I tried to get a hold of my scores as an adult so I could apply to colleges, I kept getting the runaround. I don't know how to go about getting that info. And I don't know if it's even worth it because this was over 10 years ago now.... I keep being told to PAY to just retake the test. Makes me wonder if they just put it in a trash somewhere back then.

As someone who took the SAT a few weeks ago and had to pay HUNDREDS of dollars for two AP tests, YES the college board is a scam. I honestly don't know who decided the college board deserved to be this sort of governing board over higher education. To give you an idea about how ineffective the SAT is, I went in with my basic knowledge, probably studied for two hours total, and got an 1150. Mind you, I have a 3.73 unweighted GPA and am in two APs but that means literally nothing if you are stressed about the test or not great at math (or English, but that was not my issue). I do not think you should be charging money for people to take a test in a class they are practically required to take, based on advisory from teachers and then not even guaranteeing that they will receive college credit for all their hard work. I honestly do not know what I would have done if all the schools I will be applying to were not test optional. I think its great that they are phasing out subject tests on the SAT just because it takes money away from the cost, but its still expensive, especially if you are already paying tuition for a school. (Can you tell I am procrastinating an APUSH assignment rn).

When we were prepping for the ACT at my school, we were given strategies on how to use your time, not even stuff on the subjects. It’s almost impossible to spend 60 minutes on 60 math questions, with increasing difficulty. The problem is to do the math correctly you need at least 2-3 minutes. For the English test, we were told not to even read. Less words is better, less commas is better. It was crazy the amount of not taking the test how you would take a regular test there was:

I was widely regarded in my math classes as one of the smartest students. I understood everything that was thrown at me, even Calculus. When it came to AP Calc though, I struggled only with the questions made by college board, despite knowing all the content. It was almost impossible to tell what they were asking me sometimes, and I spent whole half-hours on some questions that honestly were really simple. I knew for a fact then that I was not going to take the AP exam, because I knew I would fail it because it was rigged against me.

The SAT itself wasn't so bad for me, because even though I'm autistic I'm good at standardized tests for some reason. Well, you know -- if I finished, which I might not without the extra time from a disability I technically had. But I'm pretty sure CollegeBoard had a lot to do with AP classes, and the thumbnail of this fucking video gave me war flashbacks to that nightmare of an APCSP course. which was probably as much Mr. Webster's fault as the h̸̺̝̅ĭ̵̹͔̀̌g̸̛̣̈͝ḧ̸̬͕́ ̷͕̫͖̾́ĉ̶̡͖o̵̹͌̀̂u̵̟̻̽̎͝n̷̠̿͆c̵̢̮̠̔i̵̪͌̿l̶̨͎̘͗̑'̷͚̜̥̔͠s̶̙̉̒̕ fault, but I digress. And I have no idea anymore what company came up with them, but NOTHING will allow me to forget those nightmare essays I was assigned to do in a couple hours, but was supposed to come back to...over...and over...until I finished them. Those ń̵̃ͅi̷̩̟̒̾͘g̷̘̔h̷͚͈̄t̷̨̰̱̓̾m̸̨͚̈́̾͝a̷̹̿̀ŗ̸̟̰̇̎̍è̶͙̄͝ ̶͓̿̾͛é̸͔̯́̆s̷͇̈͋s̶͇̃a̶̪̱̗͆͠y̷̮̎́͠s̵̝͙̽̏̐ that were so bad that in my last year taking them, I just stared at the screen for 1.5 hours because I was too burned out from the previous two years. Then my savior of an English teacher told my parents and me that they could actually opt me out of they wanted to with NO CONSEQUENCE. WHAT THE FUCK HAD BEEN THE PURPOSE OF THIS MISERY? Which my parents then proceeded to do. Then when my math test took too long and had me getting pulled out of class to work on it, my parents pulled me from that one too. I hope I'm remembering this all correctly, because if I am, Mrs. Oberg was an even better teacher than I remembered.

I paused late in the video to rant to myself about how they told me longer essays mattered more than good content, and how they gave us the example of "if you put two essays on the wall something with bigger text on multiple pages was always preferred over small text on one page" And then you immediately went over the length determining score. Also I remember while using the official SAT guide for the math section it literally told me to make assumptions on some problems and make a guess because of the time constraints.

It freaking sucks man. I love learning the courses they offer because I want to know information that is normally not explained. And I love my current AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography classes because of the information I learn. But for a while, I've known that it isn't normal that literally almost every school-related or summer program I have attempted to get into asks for my PSAT, SAT, ACT, or AP test scores and those are sometimes the make-or-break numerical measurements that allow you to be accepted or declined. Last year at the beginning of quarantine was my first AP Exam and I was stuck at home absolutely stressed out of my mind, and I ended up with score of 2 out of a possible 5. I excelled at the class in school with a very rigorous teacher and got 100+ on my report card (not to say that should dictate the validity of my effort either though) but this was one of my favorite course in high school and I got the most screwed over by it--I mean, how can they assume that someone is in the right mind space at the beginning of a global pandemic to perform at their highest level for a freaking test? Now, I can't even use it for college credit. I'm very low income and I am privelage to only have to pay 5 dollars (each) for my exams but I don't know what I'll need to pay for PSAT or SAT.

I dont believe that APUSH was in anyway directly demonizing any particular president, rather pointing out the tyrannical and blatantly racist and classist acts of political juggernauts that pervades US history, such as J.P. Morgan and Carnegie and several presidents. I hate to say it, but there is a lot of policing in the South over what they want there students to learn, and I think that should be considered. I do believe AP should tell of their actions and let the students decide, and from what I remember, what the curriculum did for me, but that may have also been the influence of my specific teacher. I didnt take any APUSH related video course on the CollegeBoard website so they may explain it differently.

I feel like blaming the test for systematic inequality in the college system is missing the forest for the trees. Because sadly, if you can’t do well on that test, chances are you won’t do well in college. The test is really doing what it’s supposed to. You’re better off examining the problems that cause this inequality in the first place. Such as underfunded schools, not having access to programs readily available to people with money, having parents that have to work all the time and aren’t around to help with homework, having access to a library or other things that stimulate a young mind to learn, general apathy towards schooling because it’s a representation of the fuck up unequal system we live in, the list goes on and on. But otherwise, yeah fuck collage board. Glad my school went the ACT route (though I did take an Ap psychology test so)

Hey, did anyone else have to re-take the SAT because they gave out the wrong FREAKING books/answer sheets? (wrong meaning they gave out 2020 books).

I would be interested if you also took a look into the NCBE and the Bar Exam, because I feel they operate the same way as the College Board
