I actually do the segmented sleep thing because of my job. I go to bed around 10pm, wake up at 3am, work from 4am-8am, come home and go back to sleep until around 2-3pm. I only do this Thursday-Saturday and on thursdays after I wake up from my second sleep I often have an awful headache that prevents me from doing anything else with my day and only gets worse if I try to go back to sleep. Im always tired after first sleep but usually feel alright after second sleep. I’m gonna try doing segmented sleep every day to see if that helps

I work from home andI will sleep for 2 hours , get up for a few hours then sleep again for a few hours and repeat. My husband works during the day, out of the house but he can sleep all night straight and never wake up. We managed to get our lives to work with how we each need to sleep and everything gets taken care of easier if I don't have to stay up all day and of he doesn't have to get up at night with our youngest

Several years ago I found I'd naturally fallen into a biphasic routine- No matter what time I go to bed, I absolutely coma out until 3 or 4 am, then I'll get up and have a hot drink, read some of my book, put the dogs out yada yada and go back to bed and pass right out again until my alarm goes off. I thought it was bizarre to begin with because when I woke up in the night, I was Awake like, nothing like how I am in the mornings, and yet when I went back to bed, I was out like a light. tl;dr am a firm believer in the biphasic or even polyphasic sleep routines. if you're finding yourself getting into that, don't fight it!

here's the thing, everyone's sleep is different, if one thing doesn't work for them another will. for some, sleeping through the whole night is natural, and for others, waking up in the middle of the night is natural. it depends on you and how your ancestors developed.

Wow, this is very good news for me. I have, on occasion, gotten up at like, 2 am, and I knew it would be very hard to go back to sleep, so I’d just get up. A couple hours later I’d go back to bed and sleep real well. But then I’d feel bad for being lazy when I woke up again at like 10 or 11 am. Now I don’t have to feel bad for doing that.

This all made so much sense to me . I have NEVER been able to sleep 7 to 8 hrs , I always wake up in the middle of the night which ofourse, has led me to reach for those sleeping pills. But this makes sense ,! As a little girl, I’d procrastinate and try to do homework super late but I was so sleepy that my godmother would tell me “go to sleep and just wake up earlier than usual before u go to school and do your homework” and lo and behold! I’d be able to do my homework so fast! I felt like my brain was on overdrive and it helped me out a lot! So now on my days off, I take naps. I thought I was just lazy but, naps really do make me feel better 🤩

I've been sleeping in 3-4 hour blocks twice daily for a few years now. It came about naturally, it wasn't a conscious decision. I sleep when I'm tired and get up when my body tells me to. I'm not suffering in the slightest from it, in fact I feel better since it became my "normal". Thankfully, my job and responsibilities allow for this, I think thats why it started. I don't have the pressure of a 9-5 or children, etc

The one I've heard is people would wake up in the middle of the night, have sex and go back to sleep. If anyone has accidently done this it actually turns out pretty good because you're wide awake but then end up going back to sleep after watching a little TV (for 58 minutes) or whatever.

As someone who has been diagnosed and suffers from insomnia, I've tried a lot of different options. Except for this. And I've heard of something similar from Mike Tyson. He said when he wakes up in the middle of the night, he goes and works out. P.S. I still find it amusing that most sleep aids are just the ingredient in Benadryl which is an antihistamine and people pay more for some rebranded drug when they can buy a generic version, for half the price, in the allergy aisle.

At university I was deliberately on biphasic sleep because I'd read these kinds of studies. It's difficult to get into the rhythm without oversleeping and turning everything upside down. But once I did, I was much more awake and alert pretty much all the time. Now I don't personally work very well when I'm fully alert because I just kinda spiral into 17 directions at once, but that seems like a personal problem. Really the thing that made me stop is that I would have to sleep roughly when people got home from work, and wake up when they were close to their bedtime. I couldn't deal with that lack of social interaction.

This is the first time I have ever heard this theory. Funny thing is though, I had been having severe sleep issues for years until by accident I started sleeping in a split 4/4 way. This almost seemed to fix my issues and I feel more rested then I have ever in my life. Also the nap thing totally works too. I will sometimes skip my lunch and take a 30 min nap instead to wake up feeling fully recharged and ready to go. I am lucky though, I can fall asleep pretty easily and sleep through a lot of noise.

I feel a bit weird because for me to sleep, I have to have both light and sound (usually a constant frequency like your videos, they're so soothing). I filter out the blue light on all of my devices too, even tried sleep aids like medication, weighted blankets, lavender scented things, chamomile... Yet always need light and sound to drift off. If the sound stops or light goes out in, I wake up shortly after. I'm not sure why I'm like this?

I know I'm late. I'm just now seeing this. But, I don't know if it's generational or how your parents operate as to how you would deal with this particular thing, but I wake up two or three times every night and then I need to take a nap around 3:00 p.m. lol. I don't need to but I feel sleepy around 3:00. And I liked the idea of the weighted blanket, but I would never buy one. They're way too expensive. Capitalism! woo! And I have never once thought that I had a problem. I just lay in my bed or get up and clean the house or do whatever until I'm sleepy again. That's it. There's no big solution. As a matter of fact I feel like getting up and cleaning the house in the middle of the night is better, because then the next day I can focus on other things and I don't have to clean the freaking house LOL.

I have trouble sleeping regularly and walking up early. My family would look at me like i am on drugs or not normal. So i try and try to go to bed like a normal person. I just wanted to get a good night sleep, so i started taking sleeping pills. I also would also end up feeling super sleepy in the afternoon. Sometimes even falling asleep. I felt and was treated by those around me like i wouldn't normal. Since i suffer from anxiety and depression that feeling just made it worat. Its unfortunate that this 8 hour sleep schedule get treated as its universal and natural but its not even based on science.

From the time I was in high school until I started living with my husband 13 years ago (so 25 years), I would sleep on the couch for 1.5 or 3 hours when I got home from school or work, then eat a late dinner while I watched Prime Time shows and didn't homework and such, then I would sleep from 1 am to 7 am. My parents thought I was nuts but I freakin' loved napping. So much that I would sometimes wake up on a Saturday and be so excited to plan a nap for that day. But once my husband moved in, I wanted to spend time with him and crammed my sleep together. But I've never felt as good and assumed it was age related. Perhaps it is somewhat. But my hubs and I are on totally different schedules now anyway so I plan to go back to this immediately. For the past few weeks I've been tired about 5 hours before I would normally go to bed. Like pass out cold tired. But I stay up so that I can get all my sleep at once. How ridiculous!

It makes sense to me that without artificial light and technology people would go to bed, get up and do something, then sleep again. I know for sure that when I run out of things to do at night I go to bed earlier so if their chores were done, the book they were reading is boring, and there were no more dishes to wash, sleeping was the next best thing and then when they woke up in the middle of the night, maybe they had the inspiration to write a letter or wanted to chop some firewood.

When I learned about this concept it really did help me with sleep. While I still have sleep issues due to long-term medical issues, knowing that waking up after only a few hours is normal or even healthy has made things much better for me. Not having the anxiety of getting up and taking some time to do things in the middle of the night actually makes my quality of sleep that much better. Weighted blankets come from therapy, originally they were used to help kids with autism spectrum disorder or extreme sensitivity to calm down, since a lot of these kids have problems with touch, or coping with emotions, it helps them when they are weighed down a little (very important no crushing small kids) because it helps them feel themselves. Fun fact it's why kids usually calm down if you hold them and why we instinctually tug in our kids when we put them to bed, it's instinctual to feel calm when you are made aware of yourself like that, it's shit we got from being in the womb

the thing is that a lot of aspects abt human nature and psychology are stomped away by modern western society (in particular, american capitalism). segmented sleep is natural. and yet no one i know actually sleeps well. the human mind cannot be fully productive past 6 hours of work, and yet we work 8 hours and some companies push for 10. babies NEED constant attn from their parents until theyre 5, and yet a mom only gets a few weeks of time off, paid or not. humans naturally want to help eachother and make art and have fun, but the society we live in glamorizes “the grind” and convinced us that we live to work and are nothing more than dollar signs. ☹️

Honestly since I've been working from home I've been working 10am-5pm, sleeping from like 5pm to somewhere between 9-11pm, getting up and working until like 4-5am, and then sleeping again till 10am. Pretty much what she described in the beginning of the video. It's been amazing. I love getting work done at night when it's nice and quiet, and I don't feel fatigued like I used to. I don't know what I'm going to do when I have to go back to the office. :/
