I'm a florist and plant enthusiast from Australia, here's my two cents - Melaleuca is the name of a family of plants, commonly known as tea-trees, while some species are endemic to certain areas, these plants grow everywhere across the country. The claim that one plot of land has 80% of the countries tea-trees is outlandish - Melaleuca flowers are have a very high pollen count and flowers like that can cause allergic reactions, same with the oil, not everyone's skin or lungs agrees with it. - despite the name tea-trees aren't really used for tea, they are more famous for their essential oil produced from the highly fragrant leaves - Melaleuca honey is pretty popular, the honey itself is thick and organic varieties are slightly grainy (not a bad thing). Its not super sweet, great in tea and is traditionally used in honey cakes harvested from stingless bees.

I was raised near Idaho Falls Idaho. My Grandparents have so much of their crap in their house! And my best friends Dad worked there. I applied for an office position, but didn't get the job because I only speak English. I'm glad I dodged a bullet. I also went to a school Vandersloot helped start, AND my parents got into a fight with him years ago.

The reason their income "never goes away" is because even if you just sign up as a customer you are required to purchase monthly or you cant purchase at all. It took me 12 months and several overdrafts to finally get the charges to my bank account to stop. I did really like a lot of their products though. The business itself is crap.

I’m from South Florida, where melaleuca trees are an *absolute menace to society,* so it’s really bizarre to me that any company in the US would brand itself as Melaleuca. That’s like calling your brand “Poison Oak”, or “Invasive Hell Tree”. In the early 1900’s melaleuca were stupidly introduced into Florida (where it is not native) from Australia to speed up the process of _draining the Everglades_ for real estate development, because melaleuca are extremely thirsty, yet drought-resistant trees that suck up groundwater and retain it like giant cacti. If you plant them in the wetlands, they’ll spread like absolute wildfire and choke out any native trees (like endangered cypress trees) in a matter of years. One tree can multiply into thousands practically overnight, because every summer they become covered in tiny flowers that then explode and shoot irritating pollen and seeds in every direction. Tons of people are allergic to the pollen and tree sap, and develop respiratory problems during pollen season and break into blisters and hives if they bump up against a tree in the woods. Now (2021) in most South FL counties, you have to pay out of pocket to have _all_ melaleuca trees removed from your property before you can legally sell or transfer a plot of land, which is incredibly expensive and leaves big bald spots in the forest. ...And the worst part is that melaleuca trees aren’t even really good for anything. The trunks have this really weird flaky bark that looks and feels exactly like sheets of craft foam, which is highly flammable. _But_ the inner core wood is rock hard and too wet to burn. If you try to use it as firewood (or if there’s a wildfire), it produces oily black smoke that causes people to suffer severe asthma attacks and throat and eye irritation. It makes shitty lumber and even shittier paper pulp. The tree oil is literally the only product that isn’t completely useless or straight up dangerous to both people and the environment (outside its natural range). TL:DR; Melaleuca is a god awful tree designed to make your life miserable, making it the perfect name for a god awful MLM company.

I actually was a customer for about a year when I was living with a friend who somehow got suckered into selling the stuff. I knew it was a pyramid scheme and thought the products were overpriced but my friend and I came to an agreement that whatever I spent on Melaleuca products would count towards my monthly portion of the bills and such, I guess because he was that desperate to add a customer to his list, so at that point I figured why not? I thought their products were alright, some were better than I expected if I’m being honest, but were still overpriced and oftentimes inferior to products I could find cheaper elsewhere. This video made me happy I cancelled my membership thing the second I moved out. Never would have even made the agreement I did if knew about Vandersloot’s shady character.

When looking at clinical trials, it is important to understand that "bad" or "negative" results (for instance, no one in the test group showed any benefit) are not required to be published. Also, because the research is funded by Melaleuca, Melaleuca can decide which studies are published or thrown out. So unless there is independent research on a product, clinical trial results are suspicious at best.

I will definitely recommend this video to my wife, who was a Melaleuca distributor a few years back. We both learned the hard way that Melaleuca was not a company to do business with. P.S. Here's a suggestion for a future video, if you haven't covered this company already: Kirby vacuum cleaners. Yes, I tried to be a Kirby salesperson back in my 'young and stupid' days. I managed to sell one unit...to some college friends of mine who felt sorry for me and needed a vacuum cleaner anyway. :D To this day, Kirby clings to its outdated sales model of insisting that a salesperson visit your home to demonstrate the product. This may have worked 'back in the day', but it's sheer madness here in the early 21st century, IMO. At best, their sales model is out of touch. At worst,...who knows? Just a suggestion. There may be nothing to see there. P.P.S...Peter Capaldi is the best Doctor in the 'modern' "Doctor Who" era. The fight is on. :D Serioiusly, though,...your videos are YT platinum. Keep up the good work.

I really am frustrated by melaleuca, because their children's multi-vitamin is the only iron-containing supplement that I've been able to take consistently. I'm allergic to a lot of things, cannot swallow pills, and I'm autistic with really strong sensory issues, so I have a really difficult time finding foods and stuff I can eat. I've had anaemia most of my life, and taking iron is really important for my health, but there are no other supplements I've been able to find that work for me, and like, I don't want to support them, the family friend that was hunning for them stopped so I haven't had it for a while. I literally just had my mum send me another vitamin that would potentially help, but it had sucralose which is one of my major migraine triggers and it gave me 2 weeks of migraines before I realized it was the culprit. It's easy with every other MLM not to support them, nd like if I didn't know that their vitamin works for me I probably wouldn't be as upset, but my mum used to get them for me when her friend was in it, and I know they work, I know I like them and I just want a more ethical company to make the exact same product, like not similar, but the exact same ingredients. and I just, it's so much more frustrating than when I don't care or when they aren't remarkable like. And They aren't really remarkable, I'm just in an awkward position because I have a whole list of things that make finding stuff to keep my nutrition adequate difficult. They happen, to be the one that works for me and I hate it.

I’m not really sure where this ‘if you watch something LGBT related you’ll become one’ mindset came from😅 I mean yes a lot of children that are part of that group will feel a connection when they’re represented in media but the important thing is children being aware that being different isn’t bad and personally I feel they should know from about 7 years old 🤔 although saying that if you tell them all the phrases at once it may confuse them😅 What I’m saying is the person being hostile towards Homosexuals is horrid

god help me i hate this company, my mom used some origanic detergent from them, washed my clothes in it and the next day i was covered in hives, i'm allergic to a lot of plants and trees, well we didn't figure out it was the detergent for a while and i was in the doctor's office and the hospital, my mom tried washing my bed sheets with this crap and the results were not great, i have never had hives before that and the itching was horrible i got put on several meds to no change or improvement, it was only after all my clothes and bed sheets, etc were rewashed using normal detergent that i finally got relief. also seeing the made with plants or some such on the bottle was basicly what tipped me off as to why i was itching like crazy. so in some sadistic part of me i am happy this company is doing badly.

I used to buy stuff from Melaleuca. Initially I didn't even realize it was an MLM since my experience wasn't the typical one, I suppose. I had to make a LinkedIn account for my university. Someone sent me a message at that point asking if I knew what Melaleuca was. I said no. She didn't try to sell me anything - just told me it was a website that sold hypoallergenic products. I figured she reached out to me because in one of the groups I was in, I was asking if anyone knew good detergent brands that were animal-safe since I planned to work as a wildlife rehabber/educator. She asked for my number which I figured was kind of weird. But I gave it to her. She called and directed me to the site. Definitely super confusing and jumbed site, as you showed. I also found it weird that I couldn't make my own account, she had to do it for me. It seemed stupid. She signed me up for the "preferred" member deal. Anyways, I got some stuff. 99% of my future purchases were just yogurt granola bars cuz they were delicious. But initially I did get some detergent to wash my pets' stuff in, and I also got some toothpaste. One thing I found neat was you could get store credit for watching short videos. It definitely smelled fishy at that point... Not like brainwashing, but it was definitely supposed to hype you up to be a salesperson. That's when I realized it was an MLM. So I left the videos playing in the background and racked up $60 store credit, got a shit ton of free stuff, and cancelled my membership. As for the product quality? It's alright. Definitely more expensive but it is super concentrated and I still have some all these years later. So I didn't really care much. I do miss those granola bars though. The lady who set me up called me a few more times with a desperation in her voice, because apparently she was losing money by me not buying stuff. Oh right, actually, this was the worst part - she actually "recruited" me for her higher-up, meaning she did all the work and got no pay. While thos other lady does nothing and cashes out. I told her that was some shady business and told her to stop calling me. And she never did. But again, I was never approached about selling the products or anything like that. Oh yeah one last thing I didn't hear in this video: in one of their videos, the CEO (I guess VanderSloot?) supposedly claims that he was paralyzed from the waist down and was cured by the tea tree oil. When I saw that I just shook my head. Loads of baloney. I did end up buying a holiday oil mix from them for my mom's diffuser. Luckily they weren't claiming it cured cancer or anything. But the paralysis oil story was pretty weird.

My father In law is a big supporter of this pyramid group. After years of trying to get us to join I tried it for a month. Watered down products and skin reactions. He and his ‘recruiter’ lied to me about the plastic (I’ve reduced our households plastic dependence by using products like DROPPS) and ingredients. I got my first order and four days later canceled. Their points system is a joke, to rope you to buy and pay more for their crap. Was not impressed. Then I read up on the company and they have a whole team that goes through and takes down most of the negative reviews out there about this company. That’s shady as hell! Hope they don’t come after you! Great research and awesome video.

I don’t know about the sales side of things but as far as products go I love Melaleuca. The shampoo and conditioner are literally the only ones I’ve found that help my hair after it’s been damaged by dying so many times, the cleaning products work and last so long despite not having dangerous chemicals and their vitamins make me feel 100 times more energy, not to mention their pain cream and brushy stain remover thing are amazing. Taking a look at their sales model I’ve stuck to the customer side of things and am happy with their products on that end

I've met him when I was young. My dad used to call him his "best friend". My dad sold stuff for Melaleuca for years. He got in on the ground floor as it was coming up. It was a steady source of income when my drunk dad couldn't hold a real job. I've always known it was a scam, my dad was a manipulative person who was perfect for MLMs. He evaded paying taxes for years. He did seem to really believe in the products though, used to always have them around his house. Vandersloot seemed like a skeevey bastard even when I met him, and eventually stopped talking to my dad when he got richer and richer.

I live in Idaho Falls where it is based and Vandersloot practically owns the city. It's crazy how much power and influence he has. Every year he funds this HUGE fireworks show that costs millions of dollars. He influences politics and business, and seems to own half the real estate in the city. The dude is nuts. I will give him some credit though, he does treat his actual workers at the HQ and warehouse pretty well for the kind of work they do and being in this area, in which most companies typically pay very badly, especially for menial work. And with the LGBTQ stuff you have to understand how the mormon church views and especially viewed those issues, especially in the early 2000s. To say they live in a world of ignorant self satisfaction is an understatement. Yes, they absolutely believe that being gay is a choice and they teach that within the church. And the teachings of the church are absolute law to them. Not saying it makes them right, it makes them fools imo, but that is how they think and how they make decisions. They don't view it as a political stance but rather a moral imperative from god. It's absurd.

I got sucked into Melaleuca back when I was poor as a way to make supplemental income. Since I don’t have a knack for sales, I decided not to sell it, but to be just a customer. I stayed in for 5 years & it was rough. You have to purchase 35 points of merchandise every month.
